Is there really a “perfect” formula that could help solve the problems around us? We’d love it if there was, but we believe that’s not the case. The outcome of combining effort, creativity, innovation, and resilience is what gives us the tools to move forward so we prevail through adversity. That is why in this edition, we’d like to present to you Ecuador’s Metaverse Games as our Featured Official Tournament Store!
We have talked a lot about how the pandemic changed our lifestyle in general and how many businesses, specifically TCG Stores, have had to adapt to these changes, and the way they have done it is encouraging, but there’s still a long road ahead. Metaverse Games has traversed a long path and since 2017 they have discovered how to remain a favorite of clients and followers.
And by followers, we mean the 3,000+ followers on Facebook who are always on the watch for the store’s publications and updates. Erick Iván, owner of the store, says:
“We interact with our community through social media. We’ve created different WhatsApp groups for different types of Duelists allowing us to keep in touch in real time with our many followers. We create polls and communicate directly with our Duelists based on the results; with these tools we are able to identify Duelists’ needs and interests within the game.”
“A great part of my life is dedicated to this game that I hold dear, and personally or professionally I may reach more goals, but I’m sure that I’ll always keep Yu-Gi-Oh! and Metaverse Games in my top priorities.”

To find an example, all you need to do is look at their Facebook page and see how often Metaverse Games hosts official tournaments and official events provided by KONAMI for new and seasoned Duelists to prove that determination is one of its virtues. This, along with constant and effective communication, keep the public active and engaged. With these tools and tactics there is no loss of interest for the game within their community.
Erick describes the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG as a cornerstone in his life. The love for the game has taken him through different paths that have helped him fulfill many goals:
As a player, winning the Ecuadorian National Championship title in 2013 became a milestone in his life. In regard to this, Erick tells us:
“Even though I have grown older with time and completed a career that has nothing to do with the game, for more than half of my life I’ve been playing and promoting this wonderful hobby. A great part of my life is dedicated to this game that I hold dear, and personally or professionally I may reach more goals, but I’m sure that I’ll always keep Yu-Gi-Oh! and Metaverse Games in my top priorities.”
Change through adaptation was not the easiest but was the right choice for Erick. A clear sign of this is how through the pandemic, Metaverse Games was put to the task of finding an effective strategy that could be implemented through the various health regulations recommended by the local government. Instead of taking a break, he opted for something riskier and more adventurous: moving into a bigger store!
“The biggest change we made during our adaptation process was to move our store to a location with a lot more space and that helps our Duelists feel safer by increasing Social Distancing. In the future, as the pandemic backs down, we are going to host tournaments with many more Duelists and take advantage of our ample spacing,” Erick shares.
And as expected, the implemented strategy worked. Erick finishes:
“The return of in-person events had quite a punch around here. Even though many Duelists were eager to attend in-store tournaments, most of them didn’t come back right away, but we now have 90% of our players back in the store.”
This is irrefutable proof that Metaverse Games is not only a TCG Store, but rather an example of how a bit of adaptability, some insight, and a well-thought-out approach can help an OTS thrive and stand out.
